CEFN COED RFC managed to scrape a win 10 – 11 in their first game of 2017. Starting the game under pressure from the Tonyrefail eight who moved CEFN back in the scrum preventing them having good clean possession. It wasn't until around twenty minutes of the game had gone that the visitors were able to came out of their own half. Good drives from the lineout created some attacking positions which unfortunately went without achieving an opening score.. It was on the stroke of half time that CEFN opened their account with a superb well taken try by veteran winger Andrew Sullivan wide out after strong play by the CEFN eight. Sullivan did extremely well to score in the corner. The try went unconverted with the visitors leading at the halftime whistle. The second period started brightly for CEFN with strong attacking play down the slope. CEFN added to their tally by kicking a penalty to increase the score to 8 nil. CEFN continued to attack with Tonyrefail defending well. Long relieving kicks by the home side eventually payed dividends for the them when a loose pass by CEFN try scorerSullivan resulted in the home side centre dribbling through and scoring under the post. With the score now 7-8 CEFN were putting pressure on themselves. A further penalty took the score to 7 -11 before the home side rallied and with 5 minutes to the final whistle added a penalty. CEFN Coed supporters were now beginning to wonder if this was going to be the first league loss of the season. However, the visitors held on to win a game which was a very stop start affair to remain on top of the league but will need to up their game for the impending visits over the next two weeks of Old Penarthians and COWBRIDGE. This result also continued CEFN COEDS Silver Ball unbeaten run which took the tally to eight victories scoring 31 tries.
