Cefn Coed travelled the short distance to the Cynon Valley to take on Abercwmboi in a combined Division 3 East Central League and Mid District Bowl match. The Wolves began the match attacking the home side with a number of strong recycling runs by the Cefn eight. These attacking moves were rewarded after 6 minutes when outside half Luke Williams slotted a penalty for the visitors to take the lead.
The lead however was short lived when in the 16 th minute, after a quick tap penalty on the half way line, the home side progressed deep into Cefn territory where Lee Jarvis scored a converted try under the post.
The game was evenly matched during the second quarter, Scott Sullivan and Luke Morris (the second row partnership for Cefn) making a number of strong penetrating runs, which eventually allowed the visitors to gain a penalty which was duly converted by Luke Williams.
From the restart Abercwmboi were determined to move the ball at every opportunity but could not add to their score despite a good attacking move up the centre of the field. The half time whistle went with the score remaining at 7 pts to 6 pts.
The second half was a virtual repeat of the first. Strong tackling by both sides with much of the play in between the 22 metre lines. Cefn were, however, the first to break the scoring deadlock when Luke Williams added his third penalty when Abercwmboi were penalised for going offside at a ruck, to give the visitors a 7 pts to 9 pts lead.
With the game going into the last 10 minutes it was the home side who ended the game stronger. Kicking a penalty to regain the lead and adding a further try by Lee Jarvis, his second of the night. This try went unconverted when the ball hit the right hand upright and bounced out leaving the Wolves to gain a hard earned point losing 15 pts to 9pts.
